Jefferson Parish Beautifies Jefferson Highway
New Beautification Effort
Jefferson Parish announces a major beautification effort of Jefferson Highway from the Orleans Parish line to Causeway Boulevard. As part of a concerted effort between several organizations, 317 trees will be planted in October as part of the first phase of an effort to enhance Jefferson Highway.
The concept to enhance major thoroughfares began as a result of the Jefferson Edge 2020 Strategic Plan for Beautification, which was developed by The Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) to improve the quality of life in Jefferson Parish.
The Jefferson Highway corridor between the Orleans Parish line and Causeway Boulevard was selected as an area that would benefit the most from this initiative. Friends of Jefferson the Beautiful and Jefferson Beautification Inc., the two groups supporting parish-wide beautification efforts, will donate the trees. Future phases will include additional landscaping and other enhancements designed by Greg Cantrell Inc., landscape architects.
In addition to those organizations listed above, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and JEDCO contributed to the effort. The Jefferson Parish Department of Parkways will continue to support and improve urban forestry efforts.
Jefferson Feed Pet and Garden Center located at 4421 Jefferson Highway, Jefferson 70121 will host a Pre-Planting Reception on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. to preview the selection of trees that were chosen to be planted.
