Metairie Named to the 2009 List of America’s Top 100 Places to Live

Relocate America, one of the largest relocation websites in the country, today announced that it has selected Metairie as one of America's top cities.

The city was chosen from among 1,800 nominations based on its growth, environmental highlights, educational and employment opportunities, crime rates, recreational activities and housing options.  Data for the application was compiled through a joint effort of Jefferson Parish Government, Jefferson Parish Economic Development Commission (JEDCO) and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce.

"Receiving this honor validates our aggressive move toward improving the quality of life throughout Jefferson Parish," said Parish President Aaron Broussard. "Working in partnership with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, the Jefferson Parish Public School System and JEDCO's EDGE 2020, we have made substantial inroads to ensure the parish is a great place to live and work."

According to Relocate America, the list is designed to educate and inspire people, whether they are moving across town or across the country.

"With the increasing concern on our nation's economy and recovering housing market, we approached this year's list with a different lens than in previous years. We concentrated on the outlook for future growth and ability to rebound in the communities that we selected" said Steve Nickerson, president and CEO. "We looked at the local government and the business leadership in each community as we considered this year's winners. We selected communities with visionary leaders, improving or thriving economies, including housing and realization of ‘green' initiatives."
